Mark Johnson Joins Zite as CEO & Zite Releases v1.1

Today, Mark Johnson is becoming the CEO of Zite. Mark has been an advisor to Zite for almost two years and was instrumental in our pivot from Worio to Zite. He brings a strong product and technology background with experience at several successful search startups: Powerset (natural language search, acquired by Microsoft), Kosmix (categorized search, acquired by Walmart), and SideStep (travel search, acquired by Kayak). Most recently, he led product at Bing in San Francisco. We’re really excited to have him leading the team to help change the way people discover and browse content.

Ali Davar, our former CEO and Founder, is going to be stepping into the role of president, where he’ll lead the publisher relations team to explore innovations in publisher monetization . Watch for a follow on post from Ali on our publisher strategy soon. If you want to connect on that front, drop us a line.
We’re also announcing today that we’ve released Zite v1.1, available immediately in the App Store. Many of the features in this release are in direct response to the Cease & Desist we received a few weeks ago. In complying with the C&D, more content needs to be served in web mode, so it’s important to us to improve the user experience for articles rendered in that view. Here are the details of the release:
  • Faster-loading and scrolling in the web-reading view.
• Web mode articles now have the same sharing options (Twitter, Facebook, Instapaper, Delicious) that existed in reading mode.
  • In-application web-browsing, i.e., if you click on a link, you are able to browse the content without leaving Zite.
  • Option for users to convert a web mode page to a reading mode page.
  • General bug fixes and performance improvements.

Let us know what you think about the update and if there are any features that you’d like to see in the next release.

Your app is one of the ways I find new blogs to follow. The extra second or so to load a web browsing article is not very noticable. I like that I can close that and be back inside Zite.

  2. Is there any chance we'll see integration with Read it Later in future releases?

  3. Your app has become the most important app in my day and over the last few weeks I have recommended it as the #1 app on the App Store. Keep up the great work and delivering a great solution to people.

  4. Absolutely loving Zite. It's now my most used app and is great for picking up loads of interesting stuff that I would have missed otherwise. My list of favourite websites has expanded a lot since using it. Keep up the excellent work!

I love this app. A great way to find new articles and blogs about Graphic Design, Science, Motion Graphics, anything I want. Scrolling response is an issue on some sites when using Zite. It is the best app on my iPad.

  6. I love this app, too! What I am wishing for is a dimmer setting. I read the "news" in bed and would like to have a screen that doesn't keep my husband awake!

  7. This app, absolutely hands- down is my new favorite research tool. I'm just waiting for more options in the customization section! I have some rather esoteric subjects i search out, so They don't appear as options. I'm sure you'll address this as time goes by, so I'll be patient. Thank you for such a great tool!

  8. Probably the BEST content aggregation that I seen – period. I've been in this business a LONG time (40 years) and VERY few developers hit it out of the park on their first couple of attempts – you guys seem to be one of the exceptions.Keep rockin !!!
