Zite for Android is Finally Here

Today we are happy to announce that Zite is available on the Android platform, you can download it here! We’ve been getting lots of requests for an Android version since our launch, and with hundreds of millions of devices in use, developing one was a no brainer. In the process of building the app, the Zite development team has learned to take into account the wide variance of devices and OS versions in the Android ecosystem—an issue that we’ve had to deal with much less on iOS!

Zite on Android has everything you’ve come to expect from Zite on iOS, so tell your Android-loving friends to check us out! If you have any questions about the new app, or anything else, please get in touch by emailing us at feedback@zite.com.

  1. Thanks for releasing an Android version. Are you planning a tablet version as well?

  2. Thanks for the Android release. Although a little late to the game, I think you guys have a pretty good "formula" with showing the right articles.Zite was one my most missed apps during my iOS to Android transition.Anyways, glad to see you guys are expanding and improving. Good luck!

  3. Anyway to sync the android and touchpad versions?

  4. Finally and thank you! I am using it regularly on my webOS Touchpad; will accounts be synched across platforms?

  5. Well, we cannot promise any specific versions but we’re constantly working on new versions for new devices and we’ll take your request into consideration in planning. Lookout for future releases and thanks for the feedback!

  6. Thanks for using the new version of Zite on Android!

  7. Unfortunately, the touchpad version of Zite is the only version that doesn't allow syncing. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  8. All versions of Zite allow syncing except for the touchpad version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  9. Are you going to be letting us poor Kindle Fire guys download Zite from the shoddy amazon market?

  10. Any plan to support the Retina iPad? Images now are not optimized for the new iPad.

  11. Please, please mimic the HP Touchpad (WEBOS) look for the Android version. It looks utterly shabby as it is now.Thank YouPit

  12. Are you planning to release it Samsung bada?

  13. Why some articles are openned in the system internet browser? I can't rate articles when they opened like that, I think this is a bug.

  14. The iPad interface was much better….9 inchnsansungbtablet looked really strange with the iPhone interface

  15. Right now the app isn't optimized for tablets, but when we release such a version, it will be pushed to the amazon market.

  16. Hi,We cannot promise any specific versions but we’re constantly working on new versions for new devices and we’ll take your request into consideration in planning. Lookout for future releases and thanks for the feedback!

  17. Thanks a lot for the suggestion, we’ll definitely take it into account as we work towards new versions of the product.

  18. Once again, we cannot promise any specific versions but we’re constantly working on new versions for new devices and we’ll take your request into consideration in planning. Thanks for the feedback!

  19. Unfortunately, it is not possible yet to rate articles that open in the browser. We realize this is an important feature for users and we're working to improve the experience for future releases.

First time zite user here. I love the ideas you put into designing this app, but it's not very well implemented. My problems thus far:Tapping on a news article automatically launches a browser window. (Took me a while to figure out that a long press opens it in the app itself and even then, that was buggy, it didnt register most of my long taps). It's not immediately apparent exactly HOW to use the app. i.e. unintuitive. No offline reading? What is this, 2001?'Video articles' arent labeled as video, so when tapping on a video we're immediately taken out of the zite experience and into the browser….again. It's a mixed bag and I have to be careful which articles I tap on.I love the idea behind the app, just wish it wasnt a beta product.

  21. Offline reading, please. Most of my time free for reading is during the commute, when I don't use data.

  22. Well the Android version is designed for phones(not tablets) thus far, and we plan to create an android tablet version of zite at some point. Thanks for the feedback!

  23. Thanks a lot for the suggestion! This is a highly requested feature and we're definitely taking it into consideration as we work towards new versions.

  24. There is no short/long tapping functions in the application. Some articles open in the Zite reader and some don't because of legal issues relating to domains. At some point, we would like all the articles to be opened in our own reader. We currently support saving news for offline viewing with Instapaper, Evernote, Google +, and Read It Later. Just click the “Share article” button in the lower left hand corner! We’ll likely be adding more options in the future, including a way to read articles offline in the actual Zite application, so stay tuned! Thanks for the feedback!
