How can I download Zite if I have an iPad 1?
It was a difficult decision for us to move to iOS 6 only. We were starting from absolute scratch with Zite 2.0 and trying to support previous operating systems while building new features would have made it difficult to get the app to users on time. While most of our users were on iOS 6, not all were, and we weren’t happy about leaving people behind, but we felt we had to make that choice. The availability of the new version through the app store is a mistake that is currently out of our hands and up to Apple to fix.
When will I get an update to Zite on my Android or a web version?
We have plans to build out a new Android app that will support phones and tablets in the coming months. We also have a new website planned where you will be able to access Zite from any web browser on any device including your Mac or PC. Stay tuned and we’ll alert the community when these platforms are released!
How do I add topics to my Zite?
Add any of our tens of thousands of topics by following these steps:
- Select Explore (magnifying glass)
- Search for a topic and select it
- Select the heart to like it
There will be an option to add that topic to your Quicklist for easy access later.
What is the Quicklist and how do I add topics to it?
The Quicklist is a feature that allows you to save topics for easy access later. Select the heart on a topic and you will have the option to add the topic to your Quicklist. Once it’s added you can access all of your saved topics by selecting the Quicklist (the button that looks like 3 horizontal lines) from any topic page.
What is the difference between selecting the heart and adding a topic to my Quicklist?
When you select the heart on a topic you are telling Zite that you are interested in this topic and want to see more topics from it. When you add it to your Quicklist you are saving it so you can have easy access to that topic later on.
What are related topics?
Related topics appear on most stories. You can select the related topic to go to it and see more stories about that topic. If you find a topic interesting, remember to tap the heart to let Zite know you like it!
What happens when I give an article a thumbs up or thumbs down?
We use your feedback to improve your Zite. We’ll show you more or fewer articles related to a story based on whether you give it thumbs up or thumbs down.
How does Zite choose what content to display?
Zite analyzes millions of articles each day from top publishers, the social web and you! Our system is designed to custom deliver you the best articles, pictures, blogs and videos directly to your Zite.
How do I ensure that I get a diverse array of articles in Zite?
The best way to keep your Zite diverse is to thumb up articles across different sources. The more you use the thumbs up the better we’ll be able to determine what content you want to read.
How do I adjust the font size of articles?
You can adjust the font size of articles in Zite by:
- Select an article while in Reader mode
- Select Options (the gear icon) from the bottom left
- You can adjust the font size and it will show all articles in Reader mode with your preference
Changing the font will only update the font size of articles in Reader mode. We don’t currently support adjusting font size in the topic section.
How do I block a publisher from showing up in my Zite?
Zite offers the ability to block a source (publisher) from showing up in your Zite.
- Select an article from a publisher you want to block
- Select the Options (the gear icon)
- Select Block Source
After refreshing Zite you won’t receive articles from this publisher.
I can’t find a topic that I’m looking for?
We’re sorry you couldn’t find the topic you were looking for. Email us at feedback@zite.com and we’ll look into adding it to our topic list.
I’ve been seeing the same content from different sources. Can you filter this?
Sometimes duplicate articles show up in a topic. We are working to solve this issue.
How often does Zite refresh my content?
Zite refreshes every day. Also, every time you select to view a topic you will be seeing the latest articles we have for you to view. We get content from publishers within minutes of them posting it.
Evernote sharing has broken for me, how can I fix it?
Evernote invalidated their API and it broke sharing in Zite. Ack! Here is how you can fix it:
- First, change your Evernote password in the Evernote app, or website.
- Next, open an article in Zite, hit “Share”, then “More…” then tap “logout” (under actions).
- Close the article. The next time you save to Evernote, you’ll need to re-enter your new password, but sharing should work.
This should fix the Evernote issue that people have been running into.
I can’t send to Facebook or Twitter anymore, how can I fix it?
Zite uses the Facebook or Twitter account that is stored in your System Settings on your iDevice. If you haven’t set this up then you can try this to start sharing again:
- Go to Settings on your iDevice
- Scroll down to Facebook or Twitter and select one
- Login with your Facebook or Twitter account
Now, when you attempt to share to Facebook or Twitter from Zite it will automatically work for you.
How do I log out of the Sharing services?
You can log out of any service you are sharing to by:
- Select an article
- Select Share
- Select More…
- Select Logout
This one button will log you out of all the services you are currently logged into.
How do I copy the article URL?
You can copy an article URL in Zite via the Share option.
- View an article
- Select the Share option
- Select More…
- Select Copy
This will automatically save the article’s URL to your clipboard to share on any site you like.
How do I open an article in Safari?
You can open an article in Safari by accessing the option in the Share option.
- View an article
- Select the Share option
- Select More…
- Select Open in Safari
This will automatically open up Safari and take you to the article you were viewing.
Why is Zite slow for me?
We’re constantly working on performance and ways to optimize the speed of Zite. It’s also a good idea to make sure your device is hooked up to a good network. Try a few other apps and ensure your internet speed is quick there. If you are running into issues, we suggest getting on a WiFi network to ensure speediness.
How do I view articles offline?
Zite supports offline article viewing by offering you the ability to share the article to a third party service like Instapaper, Pocket, Evernote or E-mail. Here’s how to send to these services:
- Open Zite
- Choose an article
- Select the share button at the bottom right
- Select More…
- Select the service you want to share to
- Login to the service and select to share
We’ll post the article to the service of your choice so you can enjoy reading that article later.
How do I access articles I viewed earlier?
We support the ability to view the last 50 articles that you have viewed as well as access to all of the articles that you have thumbed up/down or shared. To access this list:
- Select Quicklist (looks like 3 horizontal lines)
- Select Profile
- Select Recent Articles
Here is a list of all your articles so you can keep track of everything you see on Zite!
How do I search for topics I’ve liked? Can I remove a like from topics I’ve previously liked?
You can access all the topics that you’ve liked in your profile. Here’s how:
- Select Quicklist (looks like 3 horizontal lines)
- Select Profile
- Select Liked Topics
If you want to remove topics that you have hearted you can select the topic, select the heart and select Unlike in the popover.
How do I change my password in Zite?
Following these steps will allow you to change your password in Zite:
- Select Quicklist (looks like 3 horizontal lines)
- Select Profile
- Select Add User
- Select Sign In from the bottom right
- Select Forgot My Password
Follow the steps in the app and you can update your password.
I share an iPad with someone else. Can we each have a Zite account on the same device?
Yes, you can have multiple accounts on the iPad app. You can add more accounts:
- Select Quicklist (looks like 3 horizontal lines)
- Select Profile
- Select Change User
Now add a new account and they will both be stored. If you want to switch accounts just access Profile again and switch users.
How do I change my e-mail address in Zite?
Zite does not support changing your e-mail address in the app. You will need to send an e-mail to support@zite.com and we would be glad to help you out.
Are articles on Zite pulled from across the web or only from certain sites? How does Zite pull in content that I’ll like?
Zite crawls the entire web. Content is picked up based on social signals that show which articles are gaining momentum. Zite lets you discover new topics and stories that you’ll find interesting based on your friends, reading habits and existing personal interests.
Zite is displaying too many articles about the U.S. and not my local region, how do I fix it?
We are currently U.S. centric and are working to roll out new features to give users across the world local news. We don’t have a release date tagged yet but it will be out in the coming months.
Zite is great but it is very biased toward (left or right) sided politics, what can I do to get articles I want to read?
If you don’t like an article feel free to thumb it down and we’ll show you fewer articles like it. Zite doesn’t have a bias and we deliver stories equally from the left, right, and center, in addition to fringe opinions. The more you use Zite the smarter it gets and the better it can predict what you’ll find interesting.
My wife and I both love Zite on our iPads. I don’t use it on iPhone as too small of text for my old eyes, but really wish a version would be available from the Mac App store for my MacBook Air running Mountain Lion. It would seem that would be the next logical platform for those of us in AppleLand. Thanks.
Agreed that a Mac App would be great too. Love Zite…use it pretty much every day and my iPad version runs super but have been having issues related to speed with the iPhone app for the last few days. The initial screen loads great, but anything I select takes FOREVER to load…watch the spinning wheel. However if I click on the web icon, the page loads that way fine. Recent problem and only on the iPhone. Any thoughts?
Using Zite on my iPad and iPad mini. It would be fantastic if the pinch to zoom feature that’s available in Safari and many other places also worked in reading mode. My eyes aren’t getting any younger!
Could not agree more with Dan Lester. Please create a website or a native mac app so we can also read the articles on our macs.
Zite tends to show me the same articles that I have already read earlier in the day or the day before. How can I make those go away?

The interface seems disjointed. There isn’t an apparent way to reset my Evenote password after their compromise.

I love Zite, but I’m having a small problem. (Doesn’t make me love Zite less!) Recently, I changed my Evernote password and now I can’t save articles from Zite to Evernote. I can’t find where in Zite to change the account info…HELP!

Is it no longer possible to send articles (not just links) to Evernote? If so this is a dealbreaker for me. With Flipboard I can at least us Pocket as a “middle man”.

As someone who values good journalism and hates the direction that the ad-supported model is taking us (content farms, link-bait articles, a general hollowing-out of journalism) I would love to see Zite support a subscription- or donation-based model. I would gladly pay $20/month if I could have that amount divided up among content providers based on my thumbs up ratings. I don’t think Zite would need to make this mandatory at all; I am thinking of a “pay what you want” model like Flattr.
I think there are a lot of people willing to put their money where their mouths are, but are stymied by the practical difficulty of ensuring that their money goes to the right places. Since Zite collects not just views but user ratings, and is set up to work directly with content providers, it seems ideally suited to pioneer a system that actually works.
