Sr. Web Developer
We are looking for skilled web developers who are interested in building the future of intelligent news using the latest web technologies and practices. At Zite, you will have the opportunity to be involved in every step of the development including prototyping, bug fixing, and large-scale feature development. We have a small development team, so your ideas and talents will directly impact the product, and our nonhierarchical structure means you will have the ability to influence areas of the product far beyond your title.
The most important quality you can possess is raw programming ability and a vigorous appetite for learning new skills. That said, we would be inclined toward candidates who have:
- HTML5/CSS3/jQuery experience
- Knowledge of modern web client development (for instance, using Backbone.js)
- Experience optimizing sites for performance, especially on mobile devices
- Experience developing hardware-accelerated animations and transitions
- A sense for quality user experience and UI
- Comfort with a fast-paced environment
Dev/Ops Engineer
We are looking for a hands-on devops engineer who can make our servers happy, monitor what they are doing, automate our deployment and development. We process and analyze tens of millions of new documents a day, handle lots of users and have to react to changing news events. We are looking for these qualities:
- Experience with Fedora and Debian / Ubuntu GNU/Linux
- Experience with Python
- Knowledge of the vagaries of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) ecosystem
- Experience with NoSQL stores such as key-value, document and columnar.
- Experience with SQL databases.
- Experience building and running web-scale systems.

Our back-end system must be able to generate real-time recommendations on this corpus while constantly processing new data, must handle failures gracefully and scale to match demand.
We want smart, motivated and flexible all-around developers who can work well on a team. If you can demonstrate those qualities, then inexperience with large-scale systems won’t hold you back. That said, these qualities will help:
- Experience building flexible distributed systems
- A keen intuition for fault-tolerant architectures
- Familiarity with C++ and Python
- Knowledge of the vagaries of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) ecosystem

Android Developer
We are looking for highly skilled Android developers. iOS Developer
- Handle various aspects of development including prototyping, large scale feature development and bug fixing on the iPhone and iPad.
- Work closely with the rest of the engineering, design and QA teams to deliver a high quality product.
- Use Instruments to analyze, debug and find improvements within the app.
- Ownership of all aspects of development for some features.
Requirements

Community Manager
Zite is looking for a community manager to engage with our users externally and act as their voice internally. We are looking for a self-starter who understands technical aspects of our product and can work well with cross-functional teams.
This role will primarily be a support position and is a part-time opportunity based in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for any incoming issues and feedback from users
- Respond to user requests with minimal turnaround time. Serve as hands-on contact around major app releases
- Identify issues, draft responses, provide assistance and relay information to internal teams regularly
- Maintain FAQs (identify any new, frequent issues to highlight to users), report on metrics relating to user feedback regularly
- Engage with power users, identify additional power users, interact with beta testers as needed
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in customer support
- Familiarity with UserVoice, Zendesk, GetSatisfaction and similar platforms
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to troubleshoot issues and interpret/relay user feedback
- Familiarity with managing user communities on popular social networks is desired
